Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs)

CERTs provide local support for life-threatening medical emergencies in smaller communities where ambulance response is likely to be delayed by distance or terrain.

CERTs are staffed by trained Volunteer Ambulance Officers and carry much the same equipment as a regular ambulance, but they respond to cases in a car rather than an ambulance.

CERTs do not transport patients to medical facilities and are always backed up by a full ambulance crew who take over patient care and transport patients as required.

There are currently five CERTs in Tasmania, in Ellendale, South Arm, Poatina, Longford and Port Sorell.
